Discover Lawrence University’s Björklunden preserve. The property includes 305 acres that are protected in perpetuity by conservation easement, including ½ mile of Lake Michigan shoreline, boreal forest, and migratory bird and wildlife habitats. View the diversity of plants and animals living in the beautiful forests and upland meadows. Learn about the adaptations that allow them to survive under the dense shade of the forest canopy—in summer as well as our frigid Wisconsin winters. View the unique geological formations found just inland from the lake. This moderate, 2-mile walk brings you along the shoreline, and through both a remnant boreal forest and upland hardwood forest. Along the trail, you’ll pass a small wind turbine and soon-to-be installed solar power array that offers sustainable power for the campus.  Good walking shoes recommended.
