and large wetlands on the property. If we’re lucky, we’ll see the
sandhill cranes that visit the property each fall.

about the surrounding lands in the Thorp Pond State Natural Area and
Hibbards Creek. The preserve was donated to the Door County Land Trust
by the family of George and Lila Picha.

Aldo Leopold Legacy Tour
Saturday, October 9— 8:30 a.m. departure, $110 per person
Enjoy the beautiful fall colors with Land Trust friends as we travel by
luxury coach to the Aldo Leopold Legacy Center near Baraboo, Wisconsin.
Estella and Chuck Lauter will share bits of wisdom from Leopold’s, A
Sand County Almanac, during the ride. We will eat a box lunch prior to
taking a guided tour of the Legacy Center where we’ll hear how solar
power, geothermal, and sustainable building materials have helped this
facility earn the rating of "greenest building in the world." We’ll then
tour Aldo Leopold’s converted chicken shed shack and farm. We’ll learn
about the land ethic Leopold espoused and his legacy as the father of
wildlife conservation. On the return trip, we will stop for a casual
dinner at Stone Cellar Brew Pub in Appleton and arrive back in Sturgeon
Bay at approximately 9:30 p.m. The coach, tour fee, snacks, lunch and
dinner are included in the cost. A cash bar will be available during
dinner. See the
Aldo Leopold
Legacy Tour Flyer (184 kb)
for more details.
