The Door County Land Trust is a private, non-profit 501(c)(3) organization whose sole purose is to permanently protect lands that contribute significantly to the scenic beauty, open space and ecological integrity of Door County. Our mission is the broadest, most comprehensive mission of any land protection organization in the county.
How does our work benefit the community?
  • We provide a proven, cost-effective solution to protecting lands in Door County using private donations to accomplish our land protection mission.
  • The majority of the lands protected by the Land Trust stay in private ownership and remain on the property tax roll.
  • Lands that are owned by the Land Trust are open to the public for recreation, education and scientific purposes.
  • By preserving Door County's open spaces, we are protecting the very foundation on which our economy is built.

How do we protect lands?
  • By working with private landowners who donate some or all of their development rights through a conservation easement agreement.
  • By accepting donations of land.
  • By selectively purchasing properties.
How are we funded?
  • 100% of our operating budget comes from membership dues, special donations from individuals and businesses, grants, and foundations.
  • Donations to the Door County Land Trust are tax deductible to the fullest extent of the law.
